Red Candle 赤い蝋燭（ろうそく）

　私はこの話が大好きです。サイトを作ろうと思った時、この話を絶対に最初にしようと思いました。短いですが、ユーモアがあって、楽しい話です。

　一匹の猿がろうそくを拾います。猿はそれを花火だと思って、山へ持ち帰って仲間と一緒に打ち上げようと提案するのですが……。

　子どもの頃、私はこの作者の話がたくさん入った本の中で、この話を読みました。挿絵もかわいいし、動物もおもしろいし、短いのにとても印象深い話でした。

　子どものための話を、一部の大人は真剣に考えません。彼らは童話を単純でばかみたいだと思っています。しかし、本当にいい童話は、子どもたちが人生をよりよく生きていけるようにという、祈りと愛情にあふれています。また、わかりやすくて美しい言葉を使おうと作家はこころがけます。ですから、いい童話は時代も年齢も関係なく愛され続けます。

　この物語を書いた人、新見南吉は１９４３年に２９歳という若さで亡くなりましたが、死ぬまでに数多くの美しい童話を書きました。興味があったら、他の作品もぜひ読んでみてください。

I absolutely love this story. When I decided to create this site, I knew this had to be the very first one. It's short, but full of humor and fun.

A monkey finds a candle. Thinking it's fireworks, the monkey takes it back to the mountain and suggests setting it off with his friends...

　As a child, I read this story in a book filled with many tales by this author. The illustrations were adorable, the animals were amusing, and despite its brevity, it left a deep impression.

Some adults don't take children's stories seriously. They think fairy tales are simple and silly. But truly good fairy tales are filled with prayer and love, hoping children can live their lives better. Moreover, the writer strives to use clear and beautiful language. That's why good fairy tales continue to be loved regardless of era or age.

The person who wrote this story, Nankichi Niimi, passed away at the young age of 29 in 1943, but before his death, he wrote many beautiful fairy tales. If you're interested, please try his other works too.
